How can I get my dog to drink water from new bowl?

Posted on Nov 29, 2009 under Best Dog Water Bowl | 5 Comments

She’s never been picky about drinking or eating from any bowl. I recently changed her old double plastic bowl for a new ceramic food bowl and an automatic waterer. She will not drink from the new water bowl when it has the water container on it. I’m pretty sure the bubbling noise scares here. How can I get her to drink from it?

  • Pets can drink
    straight from the stream.
  • New pre-filter reduces cleaning maintenance, and wear and
    tear.
  • Built-in 1 gallon reservoir makes refills less frequent.
  • Dishwasher safe prevents melting and damage.
  • The Drinkwell Fountain is designed, approved, and
recommended by veterinarians, particularly for pets prone to urinary
    tract disorders.

I recently adopted a dog from the pound and he was freaked out about the bubbling part, but he did get used to it. Just give the dog some time. I doubt he’d make himself dehydrated. But, adding something with a meat flavor could help jump start him.

Leave the dog alone, she’ll drink when she’s thirsty. Wish I didn’t have anything else to worry about!

I think the automatic waterer is a fantastic idea. Don’t worry when she gets thirsty enough she will drink from it, otherwise if you know someone else with a dog, perhaps you can get them to bring it over to drink from it, so she can see that it won’t hurt her.
    Good Luck

put a small bit of treat into the bowl when it is empty and let her go forward and eat it. Repeat this till she sees the water bowl as a positive thing then fill it back up with water.
