Is a dogs water bowl susposed to be washed everyday?

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 under Best Dog Water Bowl | 10 Comments

Please tell my roomate that a dog needs to have a CLEAN water bowl everyday! he does not believe me. He thinks every otherday is good!

A clean water bowl everyday is best. But cleaning it every other day wont hurt anything.

I clean my dog’s water bowl every time he empties it before I refill it.

Dog bowls need to be cleaned EVERY DAY.
How much effort does it take to wash a bowl? Come on now! Do you like to drink and eat out of dirty cups and bowls?

I clean both water and food dishes daily. It’s also healthier if they aren’t plastic!

dog bowls hold bacteria that can be harmful to the dog and humans alike. cleaning the bowl every day will help to control the bacteria buildup there. also, stainless steel bowls are better than plastic because plastic harbors bacteria.

To keep bacteria down and have a healthy dog the water/food bowls should NOT be plastic. Plastic can hold bacteria even when it’s cleaned often. Metal and ceramic bowls are best. As for washing, i clean all bowls (with antibacterial soap) once a week. I do rinse out the food bowls with hot water after every meal and i rinse the community water bowl out with hot water every time i refill it. Washing it with soap everyday can actually make the bacteria immune to the soap and it doesn’t do its job. Just like people who use hand sanitizer way too often.

Use stainless steel bowls and wash as often as you like. I put my dogs bowls in the dishwasher. I use a stailess steel bucket for water. Never use plastic. Glass or steel is all that should be used.
