what are the best things to keep a dog happy

Well, there are many things that dogs require. Here’s a list I came up with a while back that might help your situation.

1. The right nutrition. Every living organism needs nutrition and dogs, especially active breeds, need the right kind. I would feed them Blue (Buffalo Blue, as it is also called). It uses real meats and grains and has vitamins and antioxidants needed for a longer life as a dog. Water is obviously essential to dogs, and some places, you can buy vitamin drops to support your dog’s immune system, ect.

2. Training. Dogs that are allowed to do anything aren’t always happy. People think no rules might be fun, but it’s chaos. With dog, double it. Train your dog(s) to know these things:

a. Focus. A dog should look you in the eye to stay focused. This command is best for dogs who oppose other dogs on walks, while on the town, or on hikes.

b. Sit and Stay. This is best for dogs who jump on humans and make a lot of noise when guests are over. Teach them this along with "Settle", a command used to calm your dogs down.

c. Come or Come Back. If your dog is off-leash, you should have a whistle or now how to wolf whistle. This should be practiced first in the back yard, then with people or other dogs in the backyard, and eventually to a park or hiking trail.

3. Walks, Bathroom Breaks, and Feeding. All three of these should be Scheduled. Dogs, as well as people, need their feedings scheduled. You might not realize it, but you get hungry around the same times every day. Dogs do too. Feed them once in the morning, once around noon, and once in the afternoon. Outside breaks should also be scheduled. If they are fed and exercised at the same times, which they should be, they will have to "go" at the same times, or around those times. If your pup/dog is pad-trained, this will only be necessary if issues occur or you decide to switch to outdoors. Walks need to be done whenever possible and around the same times. If you walk in the mornings, walk every morning. If you walk in the evenings also, do it then, too. Active dogs (especially Australian Ridgebacks, greyhounds, and whippits, ect.) should be walked twice to four times a day. Three times is the usual. Do not overwork your dog. Bring water when hiking/walking.

  • Pets can drink
    straight from the stream.
  • New pre-filter reduces cleaning maintenance, and wear and
    tear.
  • Built-in 1 gallon reservoir makes refills less frequent.
  • Dishwasher safe prevents melting and damage.
  • The Drinkwell Fountain is designed, approved, and
recommended by veterinarians, particularly for pets prone to urinary
    tract disorders.

4. Love. Always praise and love your dog. This will give you and you a dog-and-master bond. This is always needed in a good friendship between man and animal. Sadly, many people over-do this task. Just because you love your dog and (s)he’s your friend, doesn’t mean there’s no punishment. Just because there’s punishment, doesn’t mean there’s pain. Punishment should be given for:
-Wee or Poo on the carpet
-Barking loudly in apartments or at guests when not needed
-Chewing. clawing things other than toys or given items
-ect.
Scold should be given with a loud, firm "No" and turn away when (s)he jumps up, barks, or other misbehaviors. Do not hit or tap the nose or any other part of the dog’s body for scold.
Instead of scolding the bad things, praise the good things. Buy a clicker (a small device used for rewards in training) and a Phanny-Pack for treats. Click the clicker, give a treat. After they find the relationship between sound and treating. They will learn to always respond to this after a while. This will make them happier.

Sorry this got so wordy, but if you follow these, your dog will have a long, happy life. For any more answers, search some on this website, I’ve answered quite a few on similar subjects in "Pets"

Hope this helped, good luck.

If you are getting a puppy, i’d advise lots of toys, if they get bored, they will start chewing everything! You need plenty of spare time to play with them also! Lots of walks as they love smelling new things! Also, make sure they are all up to date with their vaccinations as otherwise they may fall ill!

Your attention and a good food. Get shots and checks. Comfortable sleeping quarters. Some like toys some don’t you will have to experiment with that. But if push comes to shove ask your boyfriend. Don’t let pride hurt your dog.

Socialization, socialization, socialization. Sign up for training classes. Make an appointment for your dog to be spayed or neutered. Invest in a crate.

yes. before you buy a puppy think about adoption, now for your question, when ever your home and not doing anything or instead of being and the computer or watching t.v play with him show him that you love him because all in all the puppy just wants to be with you

There is no substitute for your companionship.

If you want a happy dog, you need to spending at least 12 hours per day with it.

You can buy it lots of toys, but no dog has more toys than my dog and he still chews the furniture if i give him the chance.

He loves chewing wood which is probably one of the few things i can’t buy him a toy made out of because he’ll be swallowing splinters in no time.

There is nothing you can give your dog to make it happy but yourself.

Lots of treats and toys! After all they live to eat..lol

You will be surprise that the things that make your dog happy the most is something very simple – spend time with your dog! Even without a toy or a treat, all you have to do is play with him, cuddle him, give him a rub on his tummy, he’ll be really happy:)
