Why does my cat put all her toys in the dog’s water bowl?

Posted on Oct 11, 2009 under Best Dog Water Bowl | 8 Comments

My kitten has 2 beanie babies she carries around, but every morning I find 1 of them floating in dog’s water bowl….along with anything else she feels is funny to put in there. If i dump out the bowl at night she sits and yells about it……I can’t win! I’m just trying to be 1 step smarter than a 8 mth old kitten!

Anybody’s cats do this? Why???

She’s exercising her right to be a cat and make everything "hers". Cats own the world and they allow the rest of us to live in their world.

Cats will "dump" their toys into food or water bowls as a mark of their territory. I have 3 indoor cats and the baby (3 and a half yrs) will put his favorite toys into the dry food bowl if it is less than half empty, or the water bowl when he feels like he has been challenged. His favorite toys are 3 pieces of fleece (scraps from a halloween outfit) which he brings to bed every night and drags down the stairs when he is telling us it is bedtime.

I’ve had trouble with this. What I ended up doing was taking the cat’s toys away until he got a little older.

You may have to just plain out-stubborn the kitten too. Put down water when the dog wants it, but not when the kitten does.

    Good luck!

Maybe its because your cat needs a place to keep her favorite things in. Try get her to find a new spot to put her things in, like an unused box or an area somewhere in the house.

OMG that’s so funny!! Yeah, she’s messing with your dog’s head because she is one smart kitty!! And you will never ever be a step ahead of kitty!! HA! That’s what makes them so great. All 5 of my cats mess with each other:Tyrant puts a used dryer sheet or dirty sock (yes, his owners are slobs that leave dirty socks laying around) on one side of the food bowl (like he’s "hiding it" from the other cats) Little Baby pushes the other cats off my lap by going as high on my body as he can (my face) and the others give up and leave in disgust. Little Girl is so dainty that she picks out certain pieces of the cat food and hides them in her purse (yes, she has her own little pink purse) Little Buddy torments Morticia (the old one) all he has to do is stare at her and she has a fit. They are like siblings with their rivalry. Good Luck with your kitty but you’ll never "outsmart" her.lol

She is a cat!! My older cat used to drop all kinds of stuff into the toilet. Hair scrunchies-lighters-his toys. I think it was anything to make a splash or maybe he liked watching me go "fishing". Kind of a pain in the middle of the night when nature is screaming. lol. The little one prefers the water dish. The water dish is just fine by me. For little creatures that don’t like to be wet they sure like to play in the water!!
