Hi I’m getting a cockapoo…..I was wondering where are the best places to get…..

Petsmart, it has more variety then Petco. If you are not in a hurry to get these items. Try www.petedge.com I love this site. you can get collars for $3, frontline for cheap, sweatshirts as low as $4, crates, dog bowls, harnessess, beds, etc at ridiculously low prices. However if you spend less then $60.00 (before tax) you well get stuck with an $8.00 fee.

whats the best way to keep my dog cool in the warm weather?

she always has plenty of water availible (i check on her water bowl regulary) and i only walk her in the early mornings and the evenings when its warm out…
what else can i do to keep her comfortable in the summer weather?
i dont live near a beach, the car journey would be too much for her in this heat.

I have two dogs, a staffie who loves the heat and a rotty,(that’s him in the pic) that can’t take the heat at all! What i do is take an old ice-cream tub and fill it with water, sometimes i add some treats or toys to it, then I pop the tub in the freezer, once it’s frozen I give it to them and they will lay there licking it until it’s all gone. By the time they’re finished they’re nice and cool…… and they love it!

Can Giardia be spread by sharing a water bowl?

My cat was just diagnosed with Giardia. He will be on meds soon, but I was wondering if he could transfer the parasite to my dog by sharing a water bowl with him? What is the best way to prevent this from being spread to my dog or from reinfesting my cat?

If your pets have access to the same area of infestation then they can both get it.

Example: My one dog had giardia. The other did not. It was not until I caught the one dog drinking water out of a crack in an old freestanding basketball hoop in the backyard that I found the source!!! The base had filled up with water, I had no idea that had happened.

The other dog never drank out of that, and never had giardia.

If you allow your cat to wander then you will never really be able to locate the source.

Your cat will live a longer life if you maintain it as an indoor cat only.

The vet had no worries about my other pets getting it, again unless they were drinking the originally contaminated water.

Water Bowl Hater

My 3 month old corgi has a love/hate relationship with his water bowl.

I have a bell on his collar because otherwise I’d never be able to find him and he’d probably get stepped on. He’s smaller than a cat and my cat has a bell.

There is water in the bowl. He’s never growled at the bowl before and I’ve had him for three months. He was just in a playful mood.

Best way to keep water for dogs?

What is the best way to put/place water for dogs. My dog is a Golden Retriever (11 months). Whenever I put water on a plastic bowl, he starts biting and cutting it. Im using a big metal dog food bowl for his water… I don’t think it’s aproppriate because it’s kind of small.. What should I do? If you have an example of something metal and big and made for water can you please tell me about it or give me a link?

You could get a casserole dish but the pup could still chew on that and if there’s an accident there is going to be glass everywhere. If you are gettingt things for your dog get things that are meant esspecially for them because they have been safety tested. Hope this helps!

Why does my dog put his paws in his water bowl after drinking?

Whenever my dog (a wire fox terrier) goes to drink water, he drinks it, then dips half of his snout/head in it and after puts his front paw or paws in the water bowl. What is he doing and why?? Thanks.

Can a dog catch any diseases from a stray cat who we think drank from his water bowl?

I usually pick up her bowl before we leave but was in a hurry and forgot and coming in the yard I let her off her leash and didnt see the stray cat on the porch and the dog ran right to the water bowl and drank. Should I be worried. She has all her shots but im worried about that feline lukemia or other cat diseases.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Just like you can’t get sick from your dog, your dog can’t catch diseases from a cat. (i can only think of rabies which can infect many mammals and your dog is protected). maybe fleas…but thats different.

Give the stray cat some food.

Best dog crate/carrier for my 11 month old Shih Tzu?

I have recently adopted an eleven month old girl Shih Tzu. I am going to purchase a medium size crate for her as she is peeing on my Kitchen floor when left home alone (and sometimes when we are present to!) I’ve read that as long as the crate is big enough for her water bowl and she has enough room to stand up and turn around etc, she will be quite happy there. Can anyone recommend the best type/model? E.G. should I go for the cage or plastic type? If some has a specific model in mind even better. Thanks!

Take her with you to the store (unless you buy online – prices on Ebay are far less than store prices, at least they are in the UK). The standard size is 36" wide (long). But the rule of thumb is to be sure they can lie full length, stand up, with head raised, and of course, turn round. I’ve never contributed to giving them a small crate so they don’t mess in there …… frankly I think the bigger the better (so the size you choose might be more based on where it’s going to be located?), especially if they are going to be in there for a few hours. Water bowl – think about one that hangs on the side. Otherwise one of those non-spill Wishing Well sorts would be best, so she can’t upset it and make her bed wet.

I use the wire sort, but cover the top and three sides to make a little den. If you are going to fly her ever, go for a plastic airline crate – less liklihood of her getting her legs caught ….. and it might be that airlines prefer their own sort? – it’s been some years since I flew my lot too and from Canada – and at that time, they had specially made Basset size (long, but not high) wooden boxes.

ps My newer crates open at the end, and at the side. These are very good if you use them in the car – you can have them width-wise, and open the end if you use the side door, or the side if you use the tailgate. And it give you the alternative in terms of where you have it in the house.

What is the best Dog Coat brand and style for my Shepherd Mix?

I am moving from a Manhattan apartment to a house in North Westchester County. The house has a dog door in the garage, so I am planning on leaving him, with bed and water bowl, in the garage during the day. I want to get him a dog coat when its cold out. He’s never worn a coat before. I don’t want to get him something that is very loose on him as he’ll have to be wearing it when he goes in and out of the dog door, but I want it to keep him warm during the day even though he won’t be exposed to the outside wind/rain/snow/etc. He’s a 72lb. Shepherd mix. I’ve seen people recommend "Ruff Wear", but I wanted some other recommendations. Maybe a horse blanket made for dogs? Thank you.

I’d go to a pet shop and look at the items there. I find the smaller private boutique type shops to be better than large chain stores such as Petsmart. The people working there also tend to really know what they are talking about as far as the products and can help you find something that is best as well as help fit your dog as well for the coat.
