What dog is best for outside but can also be an inside dog?

What dog is best for outside but can also be an inside dog?
Im looking for a dog that can stay outside and be perfectly fine while im at school but when i come home it will be just as good inside. My state has all seasons as to summer, winter, spring, and fall so i need a dog that can stand up to all those. I want a lovable, friendly, sweet, kind, calm dog that can be lazy with me but athletic, energetic, hype dog that can run with me go to the park and be ok outside. I also need a dog that can be ok outside by its self for a couple hours while im at school an then i can tend to it when i get home and especially on the weekends and summer, winter etc breaks.

please help me tell me what i have to do to tend for the dog,if i dont need a dog, and/or what breed do you prefer?

Additional Details
if the dog is out side for a couple hours do yall think a dog house to keep it safe from the weather is good? and having a bowl of food and water in it too?

and if the weather is two bad i will put it in a cage inside is that ok? is it ok to have the dog outside or in the cage for about 6 to 7 hours? cuz thats the time when someone will be home but! i dont get home till 1 hour or less later? i get home at 4:00pm but my dad gets home at 2:00 to 2:35 ? do you think i can keep a dog in these conditions or u think i can still try?

    tract disorders.

what if i get a baby sitter? till i get home

Again, leaving a dog outside when no one is home is asking for trouble.

I just don’t think this is realistic. I don’t understand what is going to happen to this dog when you move out, go to college, or get a job.
I don’t understand who is going to be in charge of this dog – a child should NEVER be 100% in charge of a dog.
I don’t understand why the dog can’t be kept inside.
I don’t understand when you are going to have time for this dog if you don’t get home until 4pm. I assume you have chores & homework?

At 6-7 hours, the dog will need a dog walker to come in. Why won’t your parents help?

Old dog is getting very aggressive, scared, what to do?

Posted on Nov 22, 2010 under Best Dog Water Bowl | 7 Comments

My 85lb,12 year old golden retriever is in relatively good health, he has arthritis but still gets up and downstairs, eats normally, has no major problems. However in past year he has shown signs of not being as playful as once was, doesnt like any "rough" housing like he used to. This is fine and because of it I make sure to be watchful when I have visitors or small kids around (my kids are teens) and ask them not to be too rough. But flash to now. Two weeks ago I had a bbq and a guest he didnt know went to pet him (a bit too enthusiastly) and he showed teeth and snarled and came very close to biting. I had never seen him do that except to other dogs maybe who were trying to steal his toys/food. Since then he has increasingly been getting "meaner" pushing his brother (my other dog) out of the way to the water bowl or for a toy. Showing teeth to my 16 yr old son when he tries to take a toy from him. I am now worried. We occasionally have neighbors/guests come by the house or in the yard with small children. As much as I can I will keep him away from them but I can’t be there 24/7. He is a large dog and could do damage.

This dog is like a child to me, he is the best dog in every way, never ever was a problem, never needed a leash to walk, never messed in the house, not once!, he is loved so much.

Advice?
To add some details, he is on pain meds (Rimadyl) and supplements for his joints.

im wondering if he is pain from his arthritis my friend had a jack russel that got arthritis and he used to show aggression from time to time and when they took him to the vet the vet said he was in pain from it and gave medication but that is my friends dogs case

Panting dog- 10 pt best answer?

Posted on Nov 08, 2010 under Best Dog Water Bowl | 8 Comments

My dog is in the crate (if you saw my last question this is her first night) and she is barking tons.

I noticed she had an empty water bowl and was panting so I filled it up. Now she is still crazy and has yet to drink the water.

I am not sure if she has noticed the water or not, but she is trying to push the cage open.

How can I direct her to the water bowl?
Also, I don’t think it’s a medical problem. Earlier in the day after we gave her water she stopped panting.

Just an FYI
I like the idea of taking her for a walk, but its the middle of the night out here and I’m not sure I’m comfortable walking outside at this age during the night. xD
I cannot take her out of the cage.

We are training her to get used to the cage after 9:00 pm.

I will be keeping her company for the first few nights, that was an excellent idea to sleep next to the crate.

she’ll drink when she needs it, panting cools them off. you can drop a treat in it that’s what i did .

she’s nervous because it’s a new place have no fear about the panting. just lay with her and whisper to her and pet and massage her.

whispering is very comforting to animals
my aunts new dog did that and it wore itself out and fell asleep.
also a radio or tv on overnight will be good. worked for mine.
put the crate next to your bed i do that, then you can just lay there and they see you. and you dont have to keep getting up.

What kind of items would you recommend when bringing home a puppy (10 POINTS)?

Posted on Oct 21, 2010 under Best Dog Water Bowl | 11 Comments

I’ve already got the crate and I’ve already picked out the food.

What leash is best? I hear that leather and breakaway one’s are always the best choice
Toys?
Collar?
Dog bowl/water bowl?
Bed?
Brush?

There’s also a Pet Supermarket close to my house (small store) and there’s a Petco not too far. Anyone who can help me out with the stuff i should i get and the breed is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

So the pup is very small here’s a video on what it would like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wgPHVb6UKM

10 POINTS who can help me out on this and also how much i’ll be spending.

THANKS!
Yeah, He will be 8 weeks.
Linze: I probably can’t afford a dog training class until another 2 weeks. I’ll do my best to to train the puppy myself, i’m not expert, but i will research on Youtube to make sure i can get a basic start. I’ve always been natural when dealing with dogs i think i could do it.

Congratulations on your new puppy. Corgi are great dogs, we had them on our horse farm and of course as pets. I personally love the Lupine Products. I use the Combo Collars but they have all types. They have a LIFE time guarantee on their products even if chewed. I have sent several back with no problems or questions. You can got to www.lupine.com to see their stuff and find a supplier.
Of course toys. The Puppy Kongs are great. They are durable and they entertain your puppy for the longest time. I use to but use the actual Kong fillings and treats but after awhile I would freeze them with chicken broth, or put peanutbutter in them. Toys balls or things that squeek are great for playing fetch. Corgi are herders so sometimes chasing down a ball gives them a little kick. I use to buy the plush dog toys as well, still do. But the puppies love them and love to sleep with them. Kind of a comfort thing from losing the rest of the litter.
Water and Food bowls go with either Stainless Steel or Porcelain. Never plastic. First plastic are not durable, second the plastic contains a chemical that can cause health issues for the dogs after prolonged use and the plastic also retain bacteria.
Bedding or beds are great especially for the crate. Do not go with too of expensive nor fluffy one for now. Puppies chew chew and chew and sometimes those beds end up the nicest chew toy.
For now buy the puppy brushes but the Furminator is a great brush for shedders like Corgi.
I use to use the Potty pads for training and to protect my floors. All pet stores carry them. I used the grass scented ones to that my dog learned without confuse that they should potty on the grass scent.
You also want to get aides for potty training and for cleaning. If you do not clean way the scent where they have had mistakes they will keep using that spot. I also got some bitter apple spray. It is not harmful but it has a horrible taste. ALL puppies love to chew so it is nice to have to save furniture or other items.
I use all Lupine Products. Collars, Leashes and Harness. But them I have a training Lead. I use the 30 foot or 50 foot. You can get nice ones at PetCo. They are great for training outdoors but also for giving your puppy some running room and then teaching the come command.
Some Puppy treats for training.
Good Luck and Best Wishes!!!!!!!!

What is the best dog playpen available at petsmart?

Posted on Sep 10, 2010 under Best Dog Water Bowl | 2 Comments

I want to get a playpen for my new dog (yorkie) only for him to stay in AT NIGHT and when he’s HOME ALONE. I want to stay below $80.00.
I will put his food bowl in there a little bit of water (so there is no accidents) a couple of toys and a bed.

While this is a noble idea, I think that you should reconsider. Crate training is a much better option if you are looking to avoid accidents becuase the dog will not potty in the same area they sleep. If the are is just big enough for them to stand up and turn around, and no bigger than that, they will try not to have accidents. With a play pen, the dog has access to too much space. They will compartmentalize the larger space, and one of the areas will inevitably become the ‘accident’ area. If you are concerned about him spending too much time alone, see if you can come home during lunch and him out, or have a friend stop by for you.
